How ATRUVIA is strengthening digital sovereignty and future-proofing thanks to CIB seven
Absolute reliability is crucial when it comes to highly complex financial processes in the banking sector. That is precisely why our collaboration with ATRUVIA AG—one of the largest IT service providers in the German banking sector—is particularly important to us. Every day, ATRUVIA orchestrates the calculation processes for around 900 banks, runs around 60 batch programs per bank every night, and enables targeted corrections and repetitions of individual process steps during the day.
When it became clear that Camunda 7 was reaching its end of life, ATRUVIA was faced with a far-reaching decision. We were privileged to accompany them on this journey.
The challenge: EOL, dependencies, and an unsuitable upgrade path
For many years, ATRUVIA relied on Camunda 7 as a stable orchestration platform. However, with the EOL, a change became inevitable.
However, the upgrade path to Camunda 8 quickly proved to be unattractive:
- Significantly more complex migration
- Moving away from open source
- Dependence on a commercial provider
For a company of this size, with the highest standards of digital sovereignty, this was not an option. A real alternative was needed.
The challenge: EOL, dependencies, and an unsuitable upgrade path
After a detailed analysis, ATRUVIA decided to switch to CIB seven.
The reasons for this were obvious:
- Fully drop-in compatible with Camunda 7
- Active, continuously developed open source software
- No vendor lock-in
- Modern, optimized engine and cockpit interfaces based on Vue.js
This enabled us to ensure that existing processes could continue unchanged, while at the same time maximizing future security.
Implementation: Fast, stable, and practical—together
The migration started early with an alpha version of CIB seven. This allowed ATRUVIA to test the new engine directly in its own environment.
The results were impressive right from the start:
- The backend engine ran smoothly from day one.
- UI optimizations could be delivered quickly.
- Integration into existing batch processes worked without restrictions.
We were particularly pleased with the feedback from ATRUVIA regarding the collaboration. The close exchange ensured that we were able to tailor CIB seven precisely to the needs of batch orchestration—and that ATRUVIA always felt that they were in good hands:
Switching to CIB seven was the best decision we could have made after Camunda 7 reached EOL. With CIB seven, we still have an open-source engine without being dependent on a commercial provider. The migration went smoothly, and the solution was 100% compatible with our requirements right from the start. We were particularly impressed by the close cooperation with the CIB team and the opportunity to contribute feature requests. CIB seven has reliably orchestrated our batch processes and fully meets our expectations.

The results: stable, compatible, independent
Once the migration was complete, it was clear that CIB seven was not just a replacement for Camunda 7, but a real asset for ATRUVIA.
Outlook: A strong foundation for the future
ATRUVIA plans to continue relying on CIB seven, among other reasons, for the flexibility it offers to jointly design future enhancements.
We look forward to continuing to support ATRUVIA on this journey and providing a BPM engine that reliably supports its complex financial processes in the long term.
Let´s CIB!
