In June 2019, we had already integrated the external blinds into openHAB. At that point, we were using Rademacher firmware version 2.x. We then upgraded to firmware version 5.x.
In the final weeks of 2019, it became clear that a off-the-shelf solution would not deliver the results we wanted. Therefore, we decided to build our own system.
We did this using a small Java program that retrieves the data from the Rademacher API (JSON) and then writes it as a link to a text file that openHAB is constantly monitoring.
Although the heating season is over, the search continues for a suitable system that is flexible and scalable. Unfortunately, no real favorites have emerged yet.
Now that the prototypes for the heating thermostats have turned out well, we’re naturally looking for more projects for the 3D printers. We have a 3D printer set up at our colleagues’ office in Spain (see the last post). We’ve also got a little challenge there.

To determine whether this system is a viable option for us, we need to consider whether we could use more than one gateway. Rademacher has shown us how it’s done—they’ve installed a total of four gateways here in Munich.
